Who we are

Banaras Institute of Pharmacy was established in 2019 by the Purwanchal Educational Trust. It is at Nibah, Babatpur, on the Varanasi to Lucknow highway near Varanasi airport.

The institute runs one programme, the two-year Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharm). It is approved by the Pharmacy Council of India, New Delhi (code 4351), and affiliated to the Board of Technical Education, Uttar Pradesh (code 4051), which holds the examinations and awards the diploma.

Academics

How the course is taught

The syllabus is set by the Pharmacy Council of India: 11 subjects over two years, 10 of them with a practical. Practicals for the four core subjects are held in the laboratory of the department that teaches each one.

After the second-year examination, every student completes 500 hours of practical training, at least 250 of them dispensing. The diploma and the training certificate are what a State Pharmacy Council registers a pharmacist on.

Infrastructure and facilities

Each department has its own laboratory, where the practicals for its subject are held. The campus also has a central library and a herbal garden.

  • Pharmaceutics Laboratory

    Where tablets, liquids, creams and other dosage forms are prepared and tested.

  • Pharmaceutical Chemistry Lab

    For identifying drug substances and testing their purity.

  • Pharmacognosy Lab

    For identifying crude drugs from plants, alongside the herbal garden.

  • Pharmacology Lab

    For practicals on how medicines act on the body.

  • Central Library

    Textbooks, journals and e-resources for the syllabus.

  • Campus grounds and herbal garden

    Open lawns and brick planters surround the teaching blocks. The medicinal plants used in Pharmacognosy practicals are grown in the campus herbal garden.
