Banaras Institute of Pharmacy
Anti-ragging
Ragging is prohibited here, in any form, on or off the campus. This page explains how to report it and who to call.
The rule
Ragging is prohibited
Ragging is prohibited at Banaras Institute of Pharmacy, in any form, on or off the campus. It is a criminal offence under Indian law and a ground for expulsion. Any student, parent or member of staff can report it, and a report can be made anonymously.
Every student and their parent or guardian must file an anti-ragging undertaking at the time of admission. It is filed online on the national portal, not with the college, and the college records the acknowledgement.
Reporting
How to raise it
A report can be made by a student or by a parent, in person, by phone or by email — and it can be made anonymously.
- 1
Tell the institute first
Speak to any member of staff, or call the office. A complaint can be made in person, by phone or by email, by a parent as readily as by the student, and it can be made anonymously.
- 2
What happens next
The anti-ragging committee examines the report and acts on it. Penalties go up to expulsion, and an incident that is a criminal offence is referred to the police. The person who reported it is told the outcome.
- 3
If it is not resolved
A national helpline is also available to any student in the country, and the institute would rather you used it than let something go unreported. The number is below.

Who is responsible
The anti-ragging committee
The regulations require an anti-ragging committee and an anti-ragging squad, with their contact details published.
Committee members
The current membership is available from the institute office on 7706033222. It is not listed here rather than listed inaccurately. Nothing about reporting depends on it — a complaint made to the office reaches the committee either way.
The law
Regulations that apply
Both are public documents, and both bind the institute.
Pharmacy Council of India anti-ragging regulations
Approved by the Central Government on 29 February 2012. Every pharmacy institution must constitute an anti-ragging committee and an anti-ragging squad, and publish their contact details.
Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Ragging in Educational Institutions Act, 2010
Makes ragging an offence in every educational institution in Uttar Pradesh, this one included.
Ragging is also a criminal matter. Where an incident amounts to an offence, it is referred to the police, and the regulations provide for penalties up to expulsion. If you would rather speak to the institute about something that is not ragging, the contact page has the office details.
